The master version of this playlist was created at the peak of my most recent heartbreak in 2021. One day, I was randomly listening to Pray by Sam Smith and at that point, I was DESPERATE for any source of relief from the pain that I felt and nothing seemed like it was working fast enough.
Then Sam Smith hit the bridge:
"Won't you call me?
Can we have a one-on-one, please?
Let's talk about freedom
Everyone prays in the end"
(x2)
Now, I do not know what he was going through when he wrote that song, but at that moment, I could relate to his pain - a severe pain that suddenly made me start contemplating my semi-agnostic lifestyle.
<Queue in the tears>
From my tears, the relatability of his words, to the agony in his voice - It felt like I had unlocked a new secret weapon; Suddenly, the heartache felt tolerable, and a fresh perspective emerged. I was able to self-soothe, and the moment served as a reminder that no matter how terrible I felt at that moment, I was not alone, and the pain would eventually pass (and it did).
I know that Valentine's Day can be challenging for the sad/heartbroken girlies, so I created this mix for you to feel your feelings. Your sad feelings are valid, no matter who or what caused them.
Allow me to take you through all stages of grief after heartbreak and in no particular order.
Get some comfort food, stay in bed, listen with a trusted friend, dissect the lyrics, feel them… and if you feel the tears coming - let it rip!
Suggested listening time: Anytime you need quick relief from your sadness.
It gets better, I promise 💚
With lots of love from your fave Captain,
